loading the bipod seams to be something that he stresses a lot I have a versa pod that has little bipod hop. Would a stiff bipod like a harris bipod need to be loaded?

Yes, you should 'load' any bipod... except those that allow the rifle to 'free recoil' such as those used in F-class open.

Also, if you load the bipod and have your body behind the rifle, using your weight (not muscles), then that will reduce/eliminate any 'hop' when the shot is fired.

I did just that today. Made sure that all muscles were as relaxed as could be. In past I have been rather tense. I see that when I put my weight into it I do not have to reset the legs on the table. In the past they were always walking back on the table.
