vortex viper pst

Postby farmerboy78 » Mon Oct 28, 2013 8:24 pm

Hey guys as promised, wanted to give a review of my newly acquired vortex viper PST 6-24x50 ffp. It is quite a bit larger and heavier than my Swfa ss. The glass is clear, it has a big 50 mm front lens, it has the mrad reticle, its illuminated, the elevation and windage adjustments just feel solid... There is no doubt that you are making adjustments from the solid clicks and very audible sound... It has a side focus, and there are off positions in between each power level for the illuminated reticle, so no need to waste time dialing through the power levels... There are rear facing numbers for the zoom ring and a fiber optic on the elevation turret to help you determine if indeed you made a full revolution... The adjustments are accurate and repeatable with the tracking... This scope is a tank and should hold up to nearly anything... It has a 4" eye relief... The only knock I have on it is that each mrad click equals to .36" at 100yds, the moa reticle will allow for smaller adjustments... All in all it is a great scope and is cheap priced for the class of scopes that it is in... $915 including shipping...

Have you had military training in the past using the mrad system? I've always used the MOA system as a civilian marksman. Most of the guys here that use mrad have had or still are in the military. In the total out come of it all -- what system is the simplest and easiest to master? Then, which is more accurate.

Is it .1 MRAD per click?

I think one of these will be my next scope, and I'm going to mount it on top of a .338 Lapua Mag. Which I also need to buy. But that will be a ways down the road at this point.

Jared have you check out those Sakos in 338? I have always been reduced to drooling when I look at their TRG42 or the new M10

Ben
I haven't seen those. I'll have to check them out. Here is the 338LM I have been looking at.

http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/models/

Edit* that did not take me directly to the gun as I had hoped. On the left column click "specialty series" then "11/111 long range hunter" then you can select the caliber choice from the page that loads up. The picture flips back and forth from a standard LRH and the 338 LRH.

Well guys I've been out shooting and playing with this scope and the mrad adjustment have grown on me... I was shooting a 2-21/4" group at 410 yds on my gong with a target dot the size of a spray paint can diameter... so needless to say I didn't have a precise spot to aim at, just aimed near center... for those looking at the vortex viper pst, it is a great scope and I'd have another anytime...

Nice rifle I keep going back and forth on deciding between a Savage 11 and Rem 700 for a 308
