My New "To Me" Sig Sauer MOS22 aka Mosquito

Postby Marauder 1 » Wed Aug 03, 2016 11:37 pm

Well I was at my FFL 2 weeks ago and there in the display case was a Sig Sauer MOS22 aka Mosquito. After looking at the pistol it has had very few rounds put down range. I looked at almost every video online both pro and con and decided for the price I couldn't go to wrong. If it has any issues I don't think it anything I can't fix.

Besides it's a great trainer pistol. I got it home tonight did an inspection and cleaning. The bore is pristine and there is no scuffing on the barrel or slide. All the original paper work and hardware are with the pistol. The only thing I found is the recoil spring was installed backwards. The spring has different diameters at each end, Sig states the smaller diameter goes to towards the read of the pistol. This can create feed and ejection issues. Well some Militec 1 treatment, cleaning and it's off to the range next week.

My New

Postby iridium-192 » Sat Aug 06, 2016 7:38 pm

I have .22lr kit for my SIG P226. Can't really say anything negative, well built aluminum slide, blowback action. Reliability depends almost entirely on a type of ammo I use...
Good ammo - great result, bad one - jams a lot...
Once I've fed it with some crazy super sonic "magnum" .22LR & blow a hole in a place where extractor was... Extractor flew away & I couldn't recover one, so ordered it from SIG factory. They sent a replacement FOR FREE! Good guys...
Sig Sauer
The barrel I had to fix myself, milled a grove, then tapped in a piece of tempered steel from AK receiver & just rolled over it a metal from the barrel, didn't weld it. Then using dremel rounded a chamber & surroundings of the barrel. It works just like new one. :D
I don't shoot it very often, but test it once in a while, works fine.

So, don't use "super sonic" or "super magnum" or what ever over charged .22LR ammo... Use normal, good ammo & it should perform just fine.

I've spent days looking for a threaded barrel for this pistol, There is nothing wrong with the one I have it's almost perfect. But I wanted to add a threaded barrel. Gemtech used to make one but they've discontinued production. Anyone know of a place to get a new barrel made for this pistol. BTW I guess this is the same pistol as the GSG Firefly..

Mark, I've purchased .22lr kit for my Glock 26, SO,
You have .22lr pistol, I have two P226R & Glock 26....
We should go some place to shoot all of them & lay down our thoughts & experience... Maybe there is somebody with another brand .22lr pistol who would join the team?
I think it would be one ULTIMATE .22lr pistols challenge! What do you think?

Just installed a stainless steel guide rod on the Sig, It's much soother than the stock one. I've been trying to get in touch with that company you posted but they are in New Zeland and haven't gotten back to me yet. In the mean time I'm going to try and squeeze every once of reliability out of the Mosquito. I've read where some guys polish the ramp and others actually chamfer the entrance to the chamber slightly. Not sure what to use to do that with and not mess the barrel up. So it might mean a trip to the gunsmith. There is a guy I've heard about that works on Mosquitos but I don't know what he charges.
