Now that's a rifle with some serious historical credentials. The US had some in it's arsenals as well until they were sold through the civilian marksmanship program for under 4.00 each in the 20's. Most rifles we see here in the states were gone through and rearsenaled then put into storage during the 50's,60's and 70's. Some 30 million Mosin Nagants had been made by the end of official production in 1959. tens of millions were kept in new unissued condition for decades in storage, well into the 1980s these rifles were for reserve troops for a cold war that never happened.

As for 91/30s there are four basic categories:

Post War Production (1945 and onwards) - mostly m44, m38 type carbines.

War Time Production (1942-1944) - the lowest quality of Mosin Nagants, most 1942-1943 rifles are used in the war. They will be a good shooter but not much value for collecting. many war time sniper rifles were put back to the M91/30 configuration, they had their stocks replaced and the holes for their scope mounts pluged. These are known as ex-snipers. most were rearsenaled in the 1970s.

Pre-War Production (1932-1941) -These are higher quality 91/30 rifles. The fit and finish on these rifles are usually quite good.

Rearsenaled Early Production (1910s to 1936) older rifles, many of very high quality and or highly collectible. These were rearsenaled (restored to new issue condition) to the m91/30 (1930) standard around 1950.

The reasrenaling process makes the rifle like new again, but kills much of the collector's value of it.
