Finn model 28/30

Postby igunman » Wed Dec 26, 2012 2:19 pm

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all! This will be my first post, so here it goes!. I'm looking at a 28/30 that a guy has for sale, seams to be in very good shape the bolt does not match. Wood is good and solid no cracks very few scratches, bore leans to the shinny side with very good rifling. Bluing is almost to the excellent side about 92%, my question is what would be a fair price? Thanks for your help!

Is there any way to post some pictures? It would go farther than if we can see what your talking about.

Well first off welcome to the board, Value is always an interesting topic. I will say this, the rifles stock has been refinished since the original finish on a M28/30 is flat not shiny. This would lower the value for a collector or purist that would want the stock left unmolested.

The date is interesting since according to a couple sources the 1956 date was usually associated with unmarked Finnish M28/30's. Remember that the M28/30 is a true .308 bore so your choice in bullets for this rifle is outstanding. Another cool factoid is the M28/76's are based on the M28/30 and it's modifications.

I would say depending on the bore condition and the overall condition of the firearm between 275.00 to 350.00, if it were all original maybe 400.00 and up.

Hey Mark,
I think that it is a 1936 on the date if that makes a difference?
Thanks Kenny

I stand corrected.. It is a 36.. Makes much more since now. Well I think 250.00 to 300.00 max M28/30's are some of the best shooters out there.

I got my M28-30 for $275 and thought it a bargain. I think Mark is lowballing a bit. $250-300 is a good price, but average is more in the $325-$500 range for an M28-30. As Mark mentioned, these are among the most accurate and the only .3082 bored Mosins, and the prices reflect it.

M39's average $300-400

Here are the results from recent auctions I had been watching:
19xx M28 $324.99 and $290.00
1940 M28/30 SK.y. Civil Guard $557(Ave cond., no issue number)
1939 M28/30 SK.y. Civil Guard Reserve not met @$375 (Unissued, Grade 2 stamp)
19XX M24 Reserve Not met @$375 (buy it now was $600)

Remember, this has a .3082 bore, so reloads are advised.

I prefer the Civil Guard rifles. The auctions tend to show the same, as they go for more. Your unit has a lined out Civilian Guard issue district number, so there is some interesting history to be uncovered there.

Yeah I was because I had not seen the bore.. If the bore is good then Devil Dogs prices are correct.
