Thanks grimstod, I just picked up the barreled action today. It has turned out to be beautiful to me. Feel like a new papa!

I used rusty duck black off to clean it all up, it's a muzzleloading cleaner. I couldn't believe the rust that came off the parts, that I couldn't even see. To the point that there is only spots where the bluing is rubbed off from wear. I think it's a beautiful thing.

I do have a question, I have the stock stripped of the nasty stuff on it and I'm wondering what type of lube would be best to keep up the wood

Very nice!! When are you going to take her out??

I believe the Finns used Pine Tar, and BLO... I've got some Pine Tar that I'll send to you. PM me if you need it.

Thanks T, I'm curious if Tru oil or something similar will work or maybe some type of wax

Tru-oil wouldn't be ideal... that finishes hard... more like a varnish.

Bee's wax will work nicely, and also some Tom's wax... http://www.thegunstockdoctor.com/Products.html He's got bee's wax, Linseed oil, and turpentine in his 1/3 mix, and for his pine tar mix, he's got the oils + pine tar.

Thanks, I appreciate it alot!!! I went this way once I saw the barreled action I picked up show its face. Then put the two together. Don't know if you are wanting to do a original or a modded, but if you decide to modd it, I would recommend the big gorilla stock...there is also a new style on ebay from atomic arms that is sweet and I'll be picking up in the near future...

Curious if anyone else has seen another 28/76 stock that hasn't been bedded and also doesn't have any brass shims? I mean neither has ever been installed in my stock

I haven't tried 190 grain SMK's in mine... though I went up to 54 grains of IMR 4350 under a 185 Berger without any pressure signs.

DevilDog used 190 and 200 grain SMK's out of his M28-76... he posted several recipes in this thread. viewtopic.php?f=8&t=3176
