Re: New Fall Shoot

Alright guys,
I shot this shoot today. I'm not super happy with it. I will shoot it again when I have more time. Probably after deer season. I recently took the scope off my Mosin and was going to bed the action, but when I saw/was reminded of how cheap the ATI stock is I decided not to bed it and just live with it until I get a new stock. So before I could shoot this I had to rezero my scope. It always takes a few rounds for any newly mounted scope to "settle in" in my experience. I shot about 5-6 rounds to rezero it. It bounced around a little as usual and then I thought it finally settled in. So I put it away and worked on the house for a while. About 2 hours later I got it back out and set up to shoot the cold bore shot. Well I guess the scope had not settled because you can see I missed by quite a ways. I shot the squares target next because the big square was the next biggest target. I made a couple clicks adjustment from the cold bore and hit the square ok but not center. i shot the next square and hit about the same POI. Gave it another couple clicks and shot the next square and hit fair. I decided to shoot the 3 shot group next and the first shot was just outside but about the same POI from the last square. Another couple clicks adjustment. The next two shots were in the circle and almost through the same hole. On to the hostage target, Left side first, dead bad guy, live hostage. Right side, I was getting excited about getting it zerod pretty well during all this and rushed this shot some. I'll have to check T's rules but I think I killed both. The bullet completely cut the line, with the grease line about 1mm inside the hostage, with most of the bullet being on the bad guy side. At least my scope finally settled in and I got it zeroed well. When I have time I'll shoot it again. I'm sure I can do better.

At least your the first to try it. I wish I had a mosin that was good at 100yards. My sporter mosin (smyert 2) shoots better at 200 yard then it does at 100. I am told that some bullets do not stabalize till they reach 300 but I dont see how that is posable :wt*:

Bluegrass is shipping my stock for Smyert 3 this next week (I hope  ) Maybe then I will have something to better perform at 100yds with. I have to restain and bed the hole thing all over again

The way I count it. I got:

0 on the cold bore
20 on the 3 shot group
30 on the squares
0 on the hostage because I cut the line

50 points total out of 120. That's terrible. I'll do better next time.

this thing is a lot harder than most people thought but I am sure you can nail it.

Thanks Ben. It's true that some match bullets don't stabilize until past 200 yards. And the SMK's out of my Mosin are that ways. I've shot several groups at 350 yards that are just barely bigger than my 100 yard groups. Can't wait to see yours all put together. After I get this house all done I'm going to get a bluegrass stock and bed the action in. I think she will shoot even better then.

You're right. Looking at the target in hand I thought this will be easy. But at 100 yards they were not all that easy to see with my 12x scope. I can imagine what the others with less power will see.

Congratulations Jared!! Officially the first one to post up a score!!

It really is kinda challenging, and you're doing pretty good to post up a score of 50... I honestly don't expect to many to score over 70 the first time around. I think I might have to come up with a special medal for when someone cleans it!! ;)

I was hoping that the different courses of fire would get people to shoot more... and know that I'm home, hopefully I'll post up a score soon too!! :D

Thanks T. I did get her sighted in pretty well through the challenge. I think I might have a shot at cleaning it next time. The smallest square will be the hardest. :D think positive, right?

I really expected more people to participate also. One of these days I'll shoot the zombie ones. I'm just so busy over here lately. I really wanted to shoot this one plus I had to zero the gun anyways. I did expect better though. It just took more shot than I expected for the scope to settle in. Maybe because the Burris z rings with the plastic offset inserts. either way it's good now.

Looking forward to seeing your targets. I'm confident you'll score pretty high.

Oh I forgot to mention in my posts' above, I did shoot this with my Mosin build that I won with at Schutzenfest.
