Went to Oaktree today

Postby Marauder 1 » Fri Jul 27, 2012 6:02 pm

I went over to Oaktree Gun Club to pay for my NRA reloading class, while I was there I decided to check out the new rifle range. It's coming along nicely and they will have their new benches installed and light soon.

So while I'm talking to Brian the Range Master he tells me there's a guy shooting a Mosin there now. So I go out and check it out and who should it be but our own cwilliams and his brother! It was great to finally put a face with the name. Brian the Range Master seems like a great guy too. I think we're going to need to do a meet at Oaktree on a Saturday. If we call far enough in advance we can rent the range for a few hours.

Anyone up for a little meet and greet and Zombie Shoot?

Great to meet you and your family, Mark! I'm sorry you didn't get to see it shoot as we had just packed everything away. Next time!

Let's give Mr.D and Brett a hand for being down for the cause even though they are in Iowa and Texas ! That's Mosin Spirit.

Gentlemen, even though I live close to our colleague Chris and Oaktree, trust me.. it's not always easy getting time off work.

Chris: How did the Mosins do today?

Went to Oaktree today

Postby cwilliams » Sat Jul 28, 2012 12:28 am

Well, in the beginning it was at least staying close to center at 100 yards. I was getting a little food deprived towards the middle and got a little shaky. However, I will definitely attribute some loss of accuracy to the ammo (Russian 40's surplus). When my brother and I switched to some factory PPU 182gr FMJ at the end to shoot steel, they were hitting dead on at 50, 75, and 100 yards. I have yet to see a need to adjust my front site thankfully. I'm new to the bigger calibers and just enjoy seeing what it can do. Amazing how well something this old can shoot!

Well I'm just putting the final touches on MosZilla and I think I'll have to make a trip to the range next week to site in the scope and give MosZilla a shake down.

I might have to bring one of her siblings too. Well Chris it was great to meet you, you M91/30 is a beaut too.

I know Brian, he was the one who taught me to shoot handguns with a 1911 back when I was in high school.
I've only been to Oak Tree 2 or 3 times in the last few years, good place to plink away. I also had a friend teach me to skeet/trap shoot there.
Let me know next time you go out there, my sister and brother-in-law live out there and it's only about an hour away from me. I'd love to meet some of you guys.
