Support your local range! Dateline - Ashland Oregon:

Millionaires who built mansions near a popular gun club are now suing to shut the club down.

Dan Springer reports that the Ashland, Oregon club has been around for 40 years, and leases property from the city of Ashland.

Four hundred families belong to the club, and for years the only neighbors were cattle ranchers and farmers. A few years ago, Ed Kerwin built a mansion 700 yards from the shooting range. Now, Kerwin and another neighbor are suing the city for leasing the land to the club, claiming that the lead from the bullets is harming endangered fish and birds. The suit also complained about the noise created by the range.

The gun club is fighting back and the city is currently backing the club. A study conducted by the city council showed lead is not seeping into the ground water or impacting the creek that flows through the property.

The NRA said that because of anti-gun politics and the abuse of environmental laws, outdoor gun ranges anywhere near a city are getting harder to find.

Is this the range you go to Devil Dog? If so maybe we can all call in support of these guys. I've seen this happen before, not with a gun range but a Drag Strip. I used to live near one of the greatest Drag Strips in racing history in So Cal. Lions was the premier strip in the 60 and 70's. Suddenly someone built homes near the place and not soon after it was gone for noise.

I don't understand these people, they know it's there when they bought it. And then they complain, perhaps they should have to sign a letter of understanding that if they build in these areas. This is what you'll have.

Thankfully it is not my range. My range has faced it's own set of opponents. Most recently, they had to become a Certified Training Facility in order to maintain their charter. Apparently just being a shooting range wasn't enough.
Not that it's a bad thing, the range has hosted all the major competitions - CMP, Cowboy Action, even acting as a qualification range for the local Marines and Law Enforcement - for nearly 50 years.
