Mosin Of The Month

Postby Marauder 1 » Wed Jul 31, 2013 9:04 am

OK I'm going to be starting this up again but in order for the rifle to be considered I need to make some ground rules in regards to photos submitted.

You've all seen Grimstods excellent photos on the site, these are well shot and thought out. Also 0933's, Devil Dogs as well as many others that actually compose a photo. This is what I will be looking for. Photos that can be used say in a video or calendar. Take a lot of photos from all angles etc.

I believe Ben had a thread on photography started we need to get that going again. What I don't want for your final photo are photos that look like they were shot in the kitchen or living room. If you want to be in the photo with the rifle that is fine. But I highly suggest we look at Grims work and others who know how to show off a rifle.

It really make what we do here look professional that way. Burlap is a cheap material that can be used and it makes a great background. Props are also ok, stuff like expended cases, helmets etc.

Copy
Compose the story of the build, Year, arsenal timeline for the build, parts used etc. It makes for a much more interesting article if there are some details about your rifle. Well let I'd like to hear your opinion on this, or even if anyone is interested.

Thanks
Mark

Thank you Mark for opening this thread back up. It has been closed ever sense I've been a member. We need this to really show our projects off. Thank you again.

I'll be honest in saying MrD's "Wounded Warrior" should be a Mosin of the month. I am really surprised more people have not commented on his beautiful photos. That rifle takes my breath away everytime I look at it.

I think this is a great way to showcase our different Mosin's!!

When I have some time, I'll post the UK-59 build that I finished up... and my 1929 Tula Dragoon.

Where would you like us to post Mark?

OK was thinking about this a little last night on my way home from the ball game.. Here is my idea for how to select the Mosin of the Month.

I was thinking a panel of users will see the photos that are submitted to be considered. The rifle with the most votes will be the Mosin of the Month. There those rifles that win are not eligible to be submitted again. (unless they've been totally reworked)

There could be runners up as well. The winners could be placed on the SOCAMO Calendar or a large poster with all 12 rifles shown on it.

Well more details to follow.. if you guys have any ideas let me know.

That is awesome. So many folks on here have done tremendous work to their Mosin and for them to get recognition for their masterpiece and others to be able to have it grace their mancaves will be great.

This should be very entertaining and informative. Makes me think I need to enhance one of my old wall hangers. I just don't have anything that would be of interest to the members here. I think I lack the creative skills and or imagination to think outside the box. I will be waiting to see what is posted with keen interest.

I was thinking that there should be 2 categories of MOM. Being we have such a variety of builders, we need to honor both builders -- radical customizers and restorers, collectors. We need to have truly Modified Mosins in one and Restored and Collectible in the other. We can put them in the calendar one category every other month --- 6 and 6.
