The load looks like a good one. It is 55.2gr of W769 with 190gr bullets pushing it 2820fps. I tested three loads that day, this one was the best.

I have been into the machine shop some lately and have been improving some of my reloading stuff. Here is a shortened handle for my press. It give me a much better feel when seating bullets and sizing since I mostly neck size for the 54r Improved.

Also a lot of carbon has been building up in my Lapua brass so I did some sonic cleaning and got a lot of it out. Will see how they do this summer.

A last little improvement I have made is to get a dedicated seating dies body for my Forster die. This thing is great. I get runout in the .0005 range now.

Only problem there Grim ; is you're eliminating any excuses for a bad string . Run-out of .0005 is fantastic .

How many firings have you had through that lapua brass?
What kind of sonic cleaner are you using? I was somewhat dissatisfied with mine.

Think most of these have 6-7 firings. We shall she how much longer they last. Only thing that will ever go on them is the primer pockets. I might build a tool though that will fix that.

So lately I have been immensely frustrated as I try to get enough neck tension on these to hold the 190gr VLDs I am shooting. Now I know why. The bullet gas stop is almost .001 fatter then the portion of the bullet that my Improved brass is holding on to. Thus I am loosing virtually all neck tension. I am going to have the freed bore extended so that they can me loaded out much longer and thus this problem will go away.

You can see here a bullet on top seated to the needed OAL and below a bullet that very light finger pressure was able to push farther into the case because of no neck tension.

Bullets in the tray are ok. The rest on the table had no neck tension.

This is where the brass holds them. Its almost .001 smaller then the base where the grass seal is.

Once I ream out he freebore longer I will be able to seat them so the neck of the brass grabs here.
