I did... Loaded magazine has very high spring tension so it scratches the brass even with polished lips... It is just the nature of a beast... With steel casing it would be ok.
No wonder that pretty much all manufacturers turned toward plastic mags...
It is ok, so far 4 cycles of reloading scratched brass withstand ok, it goes for 5th round...

I'll probably surprise everybody but Hornady brass is the worse (for this setup at least...)
- (Hornady) First three empty shells are in recycle already & I'm pretty much convinced that the rest of them will join them next time. When I did annealing all Hornady turned red almost immediately after immersing in a flame of a torch... It required trimming for every single shell after every single cycle...
PPU & Winchester both are very well going so far!
The BEST is - NORMA, I've purchased 20 rds for $50+!!! in early spring (as far as I remember...) when NO ammo was available at all! & I needed to test my Blindee (as it called at that time...)...

Would you be against sharing what type of 12ga barrel you used for this project? I would love to try this with mine. I just can not afford a true bull barrel or a straight jacket and seeing that UK59's have vanished from existence this would be my best option. I fully understand if you don't want to have a copycat out there but as they say "imitation IS the sincerest form of flattery".

Gorgeous rifle, a true testament to your skill and patience.

I've been so busy remodeling this house that I haven't kept up well on everyone's projects. Have you gotten this gun out to the range since the barrel sleeve and new mods? I'd like to see how she shoots now with the sleeve.

You have accomplished something that a lot of us would have liked to do with the 10 round mag. In my opinion it should have been used in a combat rifle setup instead of a beautiful target rifle. The three round mag conversion you did stream lined your one creation. Most of the big time target shooters that I follow shoot single shot rifles. I preach the path of proper brass handling. As most good brass is a dollar or more a case, the way you treat it will tell how long it will last.

When I shoot - I load one round at a time - after the shot I try to pick up the case out of the action before it hits the table and God forbid it hits the ground. I'm thinking about making an aluminum floor plate for this purpose. Remove the interrupter and ejector so the case stays in the action and you definitely have to pick it up out of the action. The floor plate spring would hold it in position.
I walk in the foot steps of Carlos Hathcock -- to my end.

No problem, I'll tell you the model of the shotgun which barrel I used when I'll get back home today night... I really can't recall it now ((( only thing I remember the barrel was taken from a shotgun which looks like a regular rifle & it had a magazine.... The barrel originally had threads (you can see it on pictures...) to be secured in a receiver & it had no any additional point of connection to a magazine tube like all regular shotgun barrels have. It was clean & perfectly fit for this project.
So give me some time & I'll tell you exactly the brand & model.

Oh yeah! It shoots pretty good considering the age of the barrel... You can look at the pictures of the range session couple pages above... Truly say I didn't expect anything impressive but whole idea of barrel sleeve approves itself. I'll do more tests with charges of different powders to find the best option.

I agree with you Shep.
This project was started to be short range light & tactical rifle, if you remember... In first setup it had iron sights which were possible to use without removing the scope, this rail would allow me that. One time I even thought to use red dot sight instead of a scope. That's why I choose 10rd mag to be used.
It just got some twist with barrel sleeve & I like it the way it is - mid range, short range rifle...
I can load 1 round at a time or load all 10rds + 1 in the chamber ))) all depends on a mood I awoke with ;) just kidding...

I used the 12 ga barrel from Winchester model 12.

Here are barrels that would work for similar project...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Eastfield-916T- ... 35d1cac708

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-OLD-WIN ... 3a8b08fa4e

http://www.ebay.com/itm/WINCHESTER-BARR ... 25896952d9

It will require EXTENSIVE work inside this barrel to make it fit on wide Mosin receiver... consider it please before purchasing.
That was most difficult part in this project to me, more difficult then to make a magwell.
Good luck!

Would be great to know inner & outside diameter of 10GA barrel, maybe it would work even better?

Thank you very much, I appreciate it. I'll be sure to take my time with this, measure 5-6 times ream once...hopefully ;)

I've also been checking out a few 12ga blanks at Numrich that I might try as well, I'm just not too sure they'll have enough "meat" at the breech.
