First longbow buck

Postby ShootnMathews » Wed Nov 20, 2013 7:09 am

It's took me 3 years to get close enough to a big enough buck for me to shoot. We try to manage our property for better quality so we don't shoot anything under 3-1/2 years old. So here he is. My first longbow buck. It's a 9 pt.

Nice Buck.. Great job Jared.. We're going to have to nick name you Robin Hood or maybe Legolis would be more fitting. Anyway looks like some venison is on the menu!!

Hmmm maybe a recipe thread..

Great looking buck! I'm a stickbow hunter too. The closest I got to one this year was a nice 8 point I've been watching that was beating feet away from me about 50 yds. away.

Heh heh. Thanks Mark. I'm not sure I could live up to those guys but I'm not a bad shot when I can get close enough. I've got a pretty good jerky recipe that I've refined over the years if anyone wants it. It's what I call a wet mix, where you pretty much marinate the meat the dry it in a smoker, dehydrator or oven. I'll post it if there's any interest. Everyone around here loves it.

That buck was a lot easier shot than this guy, arrowed him in season last year while waiting on a buck. 1/3 the size and twice the distance as today. That's the exit hole by the way. He was quartering to me

Cool Barry. What kind of bow do you shoot. I've got a couple that I made that I shoot but the one I hunt with is a Martin Savannah. It's really smooth. I love it. I have had 5 small bucks close enough to kill this year but they were all 2-1/2 or younger. 2 were 8's and a 7. One was a 9 pt non typical that is 2-1/2 and has 3 main beams on one side and a drop tine on the other. He'll be pretty next year. If he makes it. Gun season starts here Monday. I'm so geared up. 3 super nice 8's at farm I've been after. One is 5-1/2 old 2 are 4-1/2.

Good luck to you and thanks

Same to you my friend! I shoot an old '73 Bear Kodiak Mag and Easton shafts. It's a lot of fun....you are either dead on or waaaay off!! I'm gonna give my 91/30 a go this year and see if I can get one in rifle season with it.
