Picked a few of Gods wonderful gifts this evening

Postby ShootnMathews » Thu Apr 24, 2014 6:47 pm

I took some more fathead minnows to the farm this evening for my bass to munch on and couldn't resist checking one of my favorite spots for Morel mushrooms, or Mollys as we call them here

. Truly one of the springs tastiest fungi. Found a nice little snack worth of them. These little babies sell for $80 a pound here at the market. These are in a 5 gallon bucket to give you some size reference. For those of you who love these as much as I do, Don't let the drool drip on your keyboard.

Man... I miss it so much... We use to go to a forest almost every week during a season with our father to collect these Gods gifts which grew in abundance in our area... we still love mushrooms but the only available are champignons from a grocery store & they're so much inferior in tasting quality then some other types of...
My favorite is Boletus mushroom - they are the kings of the table!

Very cool. It's s shame you don't have a place to go now. These Morel are very good. By far my favorite. I don't know if they grow out your way. There is actually 3 different species of the same family that grow here. The black grow first, then the white and then the half cap. This is the first ones I've picked this year and I found one white and one half cap along with the black. That's usually not a good sign. Means the season will be short. I'll fix them up tomorrow. Can't wait.
