Czech Mosin sniper

This looks like something unique and new to me. Its not listed on 7.62.net either.

Round receiver and new barrel.
The Vz54 served in the Czech Army from its adoption in 1954 to the 1970’s The rifle was also reequipped with the scope (4x25) and mount of the SVD-63 rifle. This optical package added a range finding reticule and an illuminated reticule for low light conditions. The optical sight could be safely removed as well without losing its zero. This new rifle was designated the Vz54/91 and would continue to serve in the URN and other provincial police and security agencies until its eventual replacement a few years later by the SSG-3000 rifle.

Very Cool Benjamin!! Thanks for posting!

After seeing this I did a little digging online, and came up with some information...

The variant that you posted pictures of is the VZ54/91... I don't know who comes up with the designations or, how they are decided upon. But it's an updated version (better stock, and optics) of the VZ54 or VZ54/57.

Here are some articles on the VZ54.

It appears that Czechoslovakia only used them from 1954-1957, with all known VZ54/57's and VZ54/91's being re-barreled/re-built in 1957. In 1957, the Soviet SVD was adopted.

Here is a thread with some more pictures of a VZ54/91.

And if you have an extra $2,800, you can buy one for yourself!

There ARE other Czech Mosins as well, they are quite difficult to find and IMHO are quite beautiful. I wish I could get my hands on one but I just cannot justify it. If I could just find an M39 for a decent price I'd be a happy camper.
