1915 Peter the Great-valuless?

Postby x54rcrazy » Thu Jan 01, 2015 5:42 pm

Hello all, hope I don't ruffle too many feathers with this!
I'm considering sporterizing my 1915 Tula PTG M91. It's a romanian gun, and as such the imperial russian crests are all but peened out, as is the PTG script. It has no other distinguishing marks and not a single serial number matches on any component of the rifle.
It does have strong (if worn) rifling though. As it is I don't shoot it and I have tried to sell it, but therect are no takers locally (fresno).
All in all it seems like a perfect candidate for chopping and refinishing. I'm just curious if any collectors articulate a reason it shouldn't be?

First off welcome to the forum, when you say it doesn't shoot could you clarify that a little more? Is it non operable or it doesn't shoot well?

Second if you can take some photos and post them that would be a great help. Also where did you get the rifle? Was it a Big 5 purchase, Gun Show etc. That's more for curiosity sake than anything. Does the rifle have import marking?

Thanks
Mark

If a gun does not shoot as it is then shortening he barrel will not help.

This is a M91 corect? Not a 91/30?

Sorry I should have been more clear.
As it is right now ie 5 feet long, heavy, unbalanced and with bad sights I do not enjoy shooting it. The rifle shoots fine.

I bought it off of calguns for $140 a few years ago. I wanted an M91 to go with my 91/30 and M38. And now it just collects dust.

I'll try to get some pictures up tonight after work. Thanks guys.

If you do decide to cut it down I am in need of a M91 stock. I have a Rem M91 that has serial number 9 on it and would like to get it back to original. I have an ATI came stock I would be willing to trade.
