buy the lead core 300 rounds for $80 or so. it comes on stripper clips and is not steel core. plus you get 300 stripper clips you can resell.

You only get 60 stripper clips and I can't even sell mine...

The lead core does shoot nicely though. Especially through a carbine!

I've been using the lead core bi-metal jacket surplus. No problems. No one checked. I've seen others shoot what I believe was steel core from the look of it.

I talked to Shawn in the pro-shop face to face, and in an email with Katie Mitchell, both assured me the lead core with BiMJ was fine. I've had two weeks in a row where all of the RO's have seen what I have been shooting and haven't said a word. The one even wanted to keep the casings because they were old looking.

Do they sell the " approved " 7.62x54R ammo there ? How about 7.62x39?

Btw, I might be bringing a couple of pals from Costa Mesa along. They have 91/30's and Chinese / Yugo SKS's.

I was told by Shawn that they sell the surplus stuff there because simply stated, it's cheaper. If they sell it, you can shoot it. He even described it coming in a funny looking case, which I'm assuming is a spam can or one of the cases the Russian 40's stuff comes in.

SGAmmo carries it and is the cheapest to ship to CA. Should be $80 total.
