Thanks farmer. Congrats on your rifles. This is my first savage and I'm definitely impressed. I foresee a savage LRH .338 lapua mag in my future.

Last night I shot 2 groups at 500 yards. One measured 1.57" (0.30 MOA) the other measure 2.18" (0.415 MOA). :D I can definitely live with those groups at 500 yards.

I also calculated my velocity at 2905 fps. Which I am happy with.

The bad news is my scope is not tracking properly. In some recent reading I came across a fellow with the same brand of scope(Vortex, he had 3) that one of his was not tracking right. The problem he described is exactly what mine is doing. He called the factory and they told him to buy a torque wrench an torque the rings to spec. ( he had just hand tightened them just as I did) before he sent it back. So he did and said that afterwards the scope tracked perfectly. I think this may be my problem. The rear ring is right up against the turrets. So I ordered a wrench today. Hopefully this will cure the stickiness of the turrets.

Thank you brother. I think it will do better when I get the scope right. The string were vertical like the scope turret still wasn't settled in the right spot. Both groups had about 3/4-1" of horizontal deviation.

My scope mounting kit came yesterday. It seems to be very nice quality. It the "Wheeler Engineering scope mount combo kit". The kit includes everything you need to mount both 1" and 30 mm tubes very precisely. I already remounted my Vortex on my savage that was having sticky issues on the elevation turret. Using the torque driver I can tell that I had the rings much tighter before. Hopefully now the turret will move the crosshairs freely and accurately. Ill post a pic of the kit later. It seems to be very durable.

The kit includes. Ring Alignment bars for both 1"@30mm, lapping bars for both 1"@30mm, a bubble level to slip in the receiver to level the rifle and a bubble to level your scope to the level rifle. ( this way you get a perfectly level scope and when dialing for distance the crosshairs travel in a straight line with the bore), the fat wrench torque driver, an assortment of common rifle related drive bits, a jar of lapping compound, a bottle of three locker, and an instructional video DVD.

I figured lapping the rings would take a while since I only use high quality steel rings, but the lapping compound made short work of it. Maybe 5 minutes. It was surprisingly fast to completely mount the scope with kit and you know all yours bases and rings are tightened properly.

It takes some work to post picture on here from my iPad so ill just post a link to a picture.

Another Savage fan...
I limit my Mosins to 600 yards, but my 1000 yard stick is this Savage I built in 7-08, for the 162 Amax. Custom stock, natch ;)
