Shooting my .22 @ 200 yds

While not really a milsurp (or Mosin), this Mossberg 42m(a) is so old that it wasn't even stamped with a serial #. Mossberg only manufactured them for about 8 mo, in 1944 and 1945. She was in pretty rough shape when I got her, here is the full build http://www.surplusrifleforum.com/viewto ... 5&t=121988

The target video was shot with my iPhone 4S through my spotting scope at 40X. The side veiw was shot with my digital camera (Optio W30) on a tripod. Some interesting facts about long range rimfire shooting... the bullet drops 23 MOA (46 inches) from a 50 yd zero @ 200yds. The time of flight of the bullet is almost 3/4 of a second. A 1 mph wind will move the strike of the round 1.5" at that range. The 40 grain bullet is still travelling at over 800 fps, and IS lethal.

Since this video was shot, I did by a brand new magazine from Havlin sales, I don't have any feeding issues with the new one. Also I'm making a light gauge steel target to use with this setup... the target will be more reactive, and hits hopefully easier to spot. All in all, I'm pleased. the shoot-n-see sticker is 3" in diameter... and my group is stung out horizontal, so I need to work on my wind doping skills!!

I hope you enjoyed guys!!

Nice shooting. Makes me want to dust off my 22, S&W M&P 15-22, and see how far I can stretch it. I've tried 200yds with it before but couldn't tell where I was hitting with my 3x prismatic scope on it. I had no idea the bullet drop was that much. I think the BDC reticle on my scope is calibrated to 5.56 so it's no real help.

I have a Ruger 22 that was my first gun ever. Got it for my 13th birthday. What a special gift it was. Felt like I was finally a man  and to this day at 100yds it shootes the best of all my guns. One 5 shot 3/16 group all day long. And it's got a junk 30$ Simmons scope on it.

Hey T:
Next time your out I'll break out the Romanian M1969 and we'll run that out to the range as well. those rifles have a match grade bore and I think you'd enjoy shooting that too.

Great job on the video BTW..

Thanks for the kind words guys, I look forward to posting more videos... even some longrange shooting on steel with my Mosin's.

MOLON LABE, it's a Boyd's 'tacticool'... here is a link. http://www.boydsgunstocks.com/subgrouping.htm?cat=1215 The stock wasn't originally inletted for this rifle, and I had to do quite a bit of work on it. Here is the full build http://surplusrifleforum.com/viewtopic. ... 5&t=121988

Security Forces (8154) Nice!! Welcome to SOCAMO! I look forward to seeing you around!! 8-)
