I am still working on this. Finally found some time to do some CADing. Here is a pic of its current look.

Anyone ever heard of 308 Patriot? It has the exact same base size as the 54r. Its a supper hot cartridge too. Propels 180bullet at 3200fps, even faster then 300WSM.

Its really pricy though.

I have heard of it but have no experience with it. I imagine brass is hard to get and expensive. Would probably be much cheaper to go with 300 WM if you're looking for those velocities. Or a 300 SAUM.

Edit. Actually, after checking. A 300SAUM won't get you there. I did find an interesting cartridge that may fit a mosin bolt with no modification. 7mm Dakota. I may
Look into it more. I'm sure brass for it will be hard to get

300wsm or the 300 Remington mag should be easy but I worry the rim is just a hair smaller. This 308 patriot is the perfect size. Yes brass is 9$ a bullet.

There has been one development. I figured out a way to make my ow 308 patriot. Way cheeper. I can shorten and size down Lapua 338 brass and downsize the rim .018ths and get as entaily the same thing. Other then that I am still testing this stuff on Smyert MK3.4 which is soon to he mk4 because I have a new barrel on the way in 7.62x54r Bond Improved.

SO I am finally getting back into this project. I will soon have a lathe of my own to make this a reality. Started to redraw the receiver too. It will need some changes.

I am also going to make a wildcat based on the 53r. This baby should be able to read a mile!!! Similar ballistics to a 6.5-284 without the barrel burning affect and much longer brass life.

These are sized 7.62 then 7mm then 6.5 using bushing dies I made on the lathe. Necks get very thick and bras grows almost .020in but it will shrink again when I make the 20d shoulder into a 30d and take some of the taper out of the body.
