Great link Jarred. Me and a buddy on the 311 Facebook page were talking about this article. It's a great read. I did notice though that there is one typo. He lists the length as 3.192. It should be 3.092. It's probably just a typo. A bullet that long would not cycle.

Would the Blue box , X-Match be comparable to the 7N1 accuracy-wise ? And realizing that the X-match did not have the "Dart" inside , what would be the comparative "hit power" of the X-match at approx. 7-800 yards ? Would you be in the Ball-park with the X-match ? The "numbers" indicate they are pretty close and I would like to have a knowledge-able opinion about this .
Don't have the sheckels for 7N1 , but I have managed to lay hands on a good "stores" of Blue box. :D :D

Blue box ammo is professional quality Russian target rounds. Trouble is that the bullet measures .309 in diameter -- very sloppy in a standard Mosin. They are copper plated steel so I won't use it in my target rifle. I have about 1000 rounds of the blue box and I'm just sitting on it for a rainy day SHTF situation. I'm not sure what your talking about the 7N1 projectile having a dart in it. This is what is inside of 7N1.

Sorry if I mis-spoke and used the wrong terminology , Shepard . I was referencing the steel "insert" in the round..i.e. "dart".
Old guy with diminished brain function. A "Flash-back" to the 105 Bee-hive round of days past. The brain was thinking "Dart", and since I had never seen a cross-section of the bullet ,it was a easy leap for me.
And that is a beautiful piece you've got there. Likeit.

There is no apology necessary my friend. I try my best to teach others on the forum about Mosins and 762x54r munitions. I get pictures of items like that bullet - till I got that I didn't know what made 7n1 so special or the mechanical function of the round. Because of what they are I would not use the for target practice. It would be a waste -- yes they will shoot fantastic but they have a better purpose.
