Opportunity Knocked.

Postby Shepard » Mon May 20, 2013 12:25 pm

Had a chance to get out this morning so my wife and I shot some rounds that I had loaded. Wheeling and dealing --- I got 100 Black Moly Coated SMKs at 175 gr and .308 diameter. I didn't chrony these but they work real swell. I was told that you need to shoot about 20 rounds to dope up the bore with moly. I shoot in group of 3, the first 6 were tight but the next 6 made me smile ear to ear. Then I got in a hurry cause the electric company guys were setting up to do some work and my last 3 opened up. Here is the load data for my load.

New out of the box Lapua brass length 2.087 -- sized and the primer pocket was worked inside and outside. Primed with a Federal 215 Magnum primer under 54 grains of IMR4350. That is under a .308 -- 175 grain Black Moly Sierra Matchking. The bullets are crimped and 2.975 in length which is shorter than I like but -- that was the number. This was shot out of my MS.308 with a 26 inch McGowaen barrel.

Very impressive Shep

When I come down next week we are both going to have to do some 5 rd groups so we can get our 1moa badges.

Nice! I doped the Finnstigator with these before I shot the 600yd, perhaps that is why it beat out my UK-59.

BTW, you can dope with moly then shoot regular as well.
