m28/76 range report

hey guys, finally had a chance to shoot my marksman build yesterday at a distance... started at 250yds, then 372, and finally 432 yds... I think it turned out pretty good considering I used a 3-9x40 redfield tac moa... the turret matched about right on... with the 9 power it was difficult to get a good sight picture at these distances... needless to say the were 15-20 mph winds...what do you think?

Pretty good shoot with a 3x9 at that distance. It look very flat and open where your shooting. 20 mph side winds would make it really tough. Do you hand load and what type round and load are you using for this shoot?

Yes I handload using Norma brass, 175 gr smk .308, 54 gr imr 4350, yes its flat, a freshly cut and burnt wheat field

That totally a very respectable shooting. 20mph winds. wow that usually scares me away from the range.
A good scope will help a lot.

I use Lapua brass -- that is my favorite load. I got my information from Ken at Rock Solid. It seems that is the most popular load. A lot of people use it. 54 grs ia about it. You really can't get any more powder into a Lapua case. It's highly compressed as it is.

Thanks guys, I think a 16x SS is what it needs

If you're going to shoot long range a lot then I'd go with a 16. I use mine for hunting so a 12 suites me well. I can still find and hit targets pretty fast at 100 and laying prone still effectively hit targets at 750. But if all I was going to do is target shoot I'd go with the 16 also

I have a 16x on my .22 middlestead, 10x on my savage pc .308, and a 10x on my custom m39... The 16x is awesome and I use it to hunt deer but it begins to get cloudy to see through just at twilight... Is there a noticeable difference between to 10x and 12x?
