The proper lathe tool for the proper job

Postby Marauder 1 » Wed Mar 18, 2015 10:45 pm

Is there a chart that shows the proper cutting angle and tool for the job. I thin I've got the right tool but it's not cutting well. Also it's more than likely these crummy Harbor Freight and Tool bits I'm using. Any suggestions for cutting tools

Thanks
Mark

What type of cut are you trying to achieve?

Well I know I'm going to need a boring bar, I'm also looking to face and turn some stainless and mild steel as well as aluminum. I also need a good parting tool.

I don't know if these pics help at all. Always make sure your O.D. tool tips are just below center and your I.D. tool tips are just above center. I'm sure you already know that though.

That is exactly what I was looking for, thanks a lot for posting it. Now I can print it out and laminate it. Sorry for the delay I was totally swamped this weekend. Now I need to find a source quality cutting tools.

Thanks
