6.5x54R

Postby CCA762 » Thu Sep 15, 2016 11:17 am

ImageAll,
Through marauder1's influence and the interest and help of a friend/customer of mine we have brought the 6.5x54R back to life. We haven't built a rifle yet but are currently seeking rifles and materials for the first couple of builds. We do have the resizing/necking operation down and have had a chamber reamer made by Manson Precision. Just wanted to post up and see if there were any other interested parties. Let me know what y'all think.

I have a hi wall receiver that would make a good candidate! Barrels already off and everything. I've also got a war time Mosin that would be a decent candidate as well.

After reading this last night ; I came within a hair of un-packing my barrel / receiver package and going to Bruno's to trade it out for a 6.5 barrel . Only thing that stopped me was I already have all the dies , tooling , and a very large supply of .308 Sierra and Berger target bullets I've been stock-piling for over a year .

Not to mention the 700 cases I've cleaned and prepped with hand tools for accuracy loading .Been planning this whole project for almost two years , but that 6.5 almost made me bite .

Is the case length 47mm. ?
If not me.....Who ?
If not now ....When ?

Grindl,
I'll have to get you the case length. We can always build you a 6.5x54R after we get your current build finished up. We're still waiting to get a couple of test rifles built and do some T&E and work out any bugs if there are any. So it's probably better to wait and be sure the round is going to perform well.

Sounds like an awesome idea, especially with the 6.5 bullet options out there and inherent accuracy of the projectile. Is this the 6.5 Vostok, or a new custom idea? Looking forward to seeing progress on this!

Grimstod,
It may take me a little bit but I'll try and get the specs on the reamer. Bloodhound18 is actually doing the reloading/resizing so he may be a good one to ask on certain specs. We loaded several dummy rounds and sent them to Manson Precision to have the reamer made.

The loads in the picture look like Berger 140 VLD's. Good bullets.
