Just an Idea Free Desiccant

Postby Shepard » Sun Jan 26, 2014 8:59 pm

I was watching a video on ammo storage. This guy chose loose ammo over boxed because he could get more in the can. As he bagged his 9mm bullets 200 to the baggie he put one of those desiccant packs you get in just about everything. He went around to the shoe stores in the mall and the store clerk went though some boxs and gave him a bunch of them. I have a few that are in some boxes of things I've bought -- now there going in my ammunition storage boxes. I like Free things.

I know a guy that does my 01 FFL transfers who has a huge gun safe in his garage. Upon seeing it I asked if he had a dehumidifier in it and he told me he use big Desiccant packs that come packed with Harley Davidson motors. He said once they loss their effect ness he throws them in the drier and they are good to go again.

Yes -- desiccant crystals are like little sponges. They get full and loose there effectiveness. Just bake them in the oven @ 180 degrees for an hour and there good as new.

I have one of these.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001F0IH2 ... mp_s_a_1_9

It's basically a silica packet that you dry out by plugging it in. The crystals change color when you need to dry them out too. I really like mine.
