Interesting Idea

Postby Marauder 1 » Wed Nov 09, 2011 8:03 pm

I was watching a video the other night about snipers and they state in the video that an old sniper trick is to set your ammo in the hot sun. This supposedly creates more pressure in the casing and thus get just a little more distance out of the round.

Question is does any one know this to be fact? Also how much increase could you see? And on a hot day at the range could this explain some of the flyers your seeing at the target?

Inquiring minds want to know, what say you?

The amount of air in the cartridge is so little that increase of internal pressure caused by hit will not have any significant affect on the bullet.

I think hot barrels on hot days causes the flyers. Was at the range this morning , the temp was 45 degrees. I was shooting the 91-30 sniper and had some of my best 5 round groups yet. The barrel never got past warm to the touch. Keep in mind I was using milsurp silver tip ammo. Hope everyone can take advantage of these beautiful fall days.
