Postby Gamecock24 » Thu Apr 17, 2014 6:02 pm

I went to Acadamey Sports tonight to get some ammo and saw some Monarch 7,62x54 185g FMJ I've never seen it before so I picked 3 boxes. I will see how it shoots tomorrow.

Yes please give us a report. I have not heard anything about them yet.

Ok here's what it looks like. Image
I mostly was shooting a 4" steel plate consistently hitting it. Here's some paper I shot at.

5 shot group @100yds 3 in the red one flyer to the left and I think the fifth went through the hole above the red which was already there. So it's decent shooting stuff I'd say but it's $.50/rd.

I think this stuff is Russian. Thanks for sharing. I will have to keep an eye out for it. I wonder who makes the bullets and if you can get them for reloading. Do the have a cantilever?

on the box it says Made in Russia, Distributed by Academy, Ltd. which is Academy Sports. I think Barnaul is the manufacture because it say Barnaul/Russia then has the date manufactured. I also seen Barnaul on the box of Monarch 7.62x39.

I did some looking online and it turns out this ammo is made at the same factory they make Wolfe Gold at and it also uses a boxer primer.

To bad it doesn't have a brass shell. I hear Wolf gold is good stuff.

They don't use corrosive primers to make civilian cartridges any longer especially for exported product.
