Barnes LRX 200 Gr Bullets

Postby Shepard » Tue Apr 29, 2014 5:34 am

I had the opportunity to shoot these once before and they had great accuracy at 100 yd. They are really for hunting but with a BC of .546 they work fantastic for target shooting. They have a long ogive and are 1.625" long. I loaded 15 rounds with 50.5 gr of IMR 4350 for testing and graphing for FPS. I went through 20 bullets to get 15 that were 200 gr -- the other 5 were 199.9 or 200.1 gr. They have an OAL of 3.215 and fit deep into the bore. I didn't crimp these as I'm trying something new and want to see if it works for me. I like my rounds to go off like a champagne cork and keep the burn in the cartridge and not the barrel. If the burn stays in the case the throat will erode slower.

Try varying you powder charge and shoot three bullets in each charge. You will get something like this. As you can see here 38.5 gr proved to be the best shooting.

Looks good Ben -- what were you shooting and how many yd? What load did you experiment with?

This is an example photo pulled from 6 mmbr.com. It's in one of there instructional threads.

But I have done test similar to this only it was for seating depth. Not powder charge. When I do a powder charge test I usually go out to 300-400yards.
