Question for you guys

Postby Marauder 1 » Thu Jan 23, 2014 3:03 pm

How do you or what is the best way to center a piece of hex material in a lathe chuck?

Thanks
Mark

Hexagon has 6 sides therefore you can use standard 3-jaw chuck...

OK that's kind of what I thought, I've just got to find a set small enough. I don't think my lathe at work can clamp that small.

Thanks

Can you get drill press chucks that are compatible with the lathe.

I think I would need to put the stock in the drill press chuck and then put a drill in the lathe chuck and work it in reverse if I did that.

I'll have to think about it more.

If you have a 3 jaw chuck it self centers. If its a 4 jaw chuck don't even try.

How small is this piece of brass your working on? Or should I say how big is your lathe? You should be able to chuck up 3/16 material in a 6 inch chuck.
