Preview: A drop-in aperture sight for m/39

Postby Johann_Schmidt » Sun Jan 05, 2020 3:39 pm

Hello

This sight requires no modifications to the gun.
No tools required to add or remove.
Tested today by two shooters approaching the 50y mark.
Sight picture was VASTLY better with and without glasses.

What it does require is a tall front blade unless you screw off the rear sight notch (it's removable in a Finn rear sight).
(in Finland tall m39 front sights are in short supply, every gun shop has bucketfull of short mosin sights but long ones are scarce.)

I will release this on thingiverse once I have tested the latest version with 2mm lowerpositioned aperture. Today we shot 71 rounds of 2 brands of surplus, one of them HOT, and my handloaded lead bullets.

Thanks for posting this, what type filament did you print this with? I have a roll of PLA with carbon fiber embedded, but I think the temp would be to low. I've downloaded the file and will try it soon
Thanks again
Mark

Plain PLA.
I have shot 140 rounds now with the sight, no deformation due to heat.
