I tried my regular Kelby .308 Match load of 43.3gr of Varget behind a Berger 185 Hybrid Target bullet in a Mosin case for 600 , and it was a very good load for accuracy . Did not chrono them , but it shot reasonably tight . 194-6x , 197-7x ,and a 196-4x . A 587-17x is a decent start with a test load . Also pushed the load up to 43.8gr , same 185 Hybrid on 10 test rounds .
Shot a 98-7x , of 100 possible . Have a 600 club match on the 29th and going to shoot the 43.8gr load as a test . It's a 3 x 20 , so I'll have some good data . The Varget seems to be much more consistent ,lower SD /ES too , and the Target tells the story .

Yep, the varget is the best powder to me! The 54r case has quite a bit more volume than the. 308 win. The 33.8gr load is very close to the 44gr node i found. Are you still running the varget load?

Yes ; I'm still running the Varget in my comp load with some adjustment . Since I can no longer get S&B primers , I switched to Remington BR primers , and dropped the 43.3gr load down to 43gr even . And still Locked In on the Berger 185gr Hybrid Target , or the 200gr. Hybrid when it gets windy . This rifle likes the Hybrids , so you feed it what it likes . The Rem primer was a bit warmer and opened up my group about two inches total at 600 yards . That can cost 15-20 points quickly , and losing that many points , you're done .

I have been doing some testing with A-4064 and Berger 185gr Juggernauts for Mid-Range (600 yds.) Looks promising , as I've got them into the low 190's in practice & club matches . And the "Jugg" is the most forgiving .308 bullet on the planet . If it won't shoot good in your gun , SELL the gun , or get a new barrel .

Almost forgot to add , Farmerboy . My load for my Kelby .308 , FTR rifle is 44.1gr of Varget with a Berger 200.20x ...Guessing about 97% case fill for where I'm setting the bullet .

Glad you stopped by , Bearrowland . Been quiet around here .Occasional posts from some , but not much going on for the most part . Seems like interest in things firearms have dwindled since we got a supportive 2A POTUS . I still post , when I've got some good relevant info to put out for the M-N community .
