OK, I gave you guys a chance.
Since no one else bid on it, I got it!!!
it was not a complete rifle, but just a stock and action
the stock is a virgin late production Sako M28-30 Birch stock,
steal re-enforced barrel channel, dual crossbolts, early 2 piece nose cap. It has metal Finn sling hangers, not dog collar slots.
the action is a 1905 Tula, low serial number second production Sig barrel, early style leaf rear sight, SY and SA marked and the script from the Sig factory is sill below the woodline. The barrel is D stamped for the chamber type. Stamp from the Civil Guard unit it was originally assigned to. No gray in the barrel and strong rifling all the way to the crown. Bolt was lapped to the receiver, loads and cocks with minimum effort
as was typical, none of the serial numbers match, but it has a modified Finn trigger that is very impressive - the spring was ground down to lighten it and the sear was cut back to give a very distinct light 2 stage trigger. Has a M1891 one piece dissconect, not the later 2 piece. Loads with stripper clip easier than any of my Russian Mosins.
I'll send post on several aspects of this rifle project - too much for just one post. It has a virgin stock, not even buttstock or barrel band screw holes - no stain on it.
I believe this is one of the rifles partially assembled from spare parts by Marathon Import back in the mid '80s. Where is has been since then, I don't have a clue.
I found most of the missing parts on Ebay and a man to custom make the missing screws.
I plan to install action spacers, rear action screw pillar, float the barrel and finish in BLO
I'll keep you informed
